I agree that Mark Champion was good and they didn't need a change. That said, I usually like Dan Miller as well, though I didn't listen to the game on the radio this week.

Yep, Champion was great - had passion. He was the voice of the Lions. Just like Ernie was the voice o' the Tigs.

Thats exactly what made him so good, he had real passion for the Lions and whether they were losing or winning you could really hear what he felt, he sounded like a real Lions fan calling the game. Dan Miller has no enthusiasm whatsoever... hearing him say "aaaand touchdown Lions"... there is just nothing in the way he says it.

I think Dan Miller is real good. For quite a few years now, I've listened to the radio while I watch tv - though the tv delay has made that a real pain in the arshe. I liked Champion too. I think Champion got a little melancholy at the end though - like he was so tired of the "same ol Lions" he could barely stand to watch anymore. Sounds like the rest of us, no? All the same, I like both guys just fine.

My understanding was that the change was made by the Lions, but I can't prove it.

Champion is one of the very best in the business. What they did to him is typical (Frank Beckmann got the same treatment).

No offense to Dan Miller, but Champion is far superior doing football.

I agree with all of you guys. When you heard Mark Champion's voice, you automatically thought Lions football. He had passion for the team, and was simply put, a great voice on the radio. Like Ernie (Looooooong gone!), Ken Kal (He scoooooores!), Champion's calls of Barry running the football (Barry gets the handoff at the 30, cuts it to the 35, 40, 45, 50...) were priceless. I miss hearing him on the radio, but Dan Miller's not that bad either, he's just not a Mark Champion, but nobody can be.

P.S.- The Lions games sound so good on 97.1. That was a great move to switch from AM to FM.

I dont mean to be totally of topic here but here it goes anyways

Saturday I tuned into the MSU game on 1270 in the car after watching the first half at home.

Who is the announcer with George Blaha?

Is he some sort of spartan god or what?

All the criticism I have heard about announcers on this site and not once have I heard anything about him. That guy is the worst I have ever heard. I could barely understand what he was saying.
