Rumor that 2013 OT Riley Norman has committed to MSU. An expected top 5 in the state. Now we need Elmer also.

By Marc Vieau
CADILLAC – Riley Norman is pretty hard to miss.
After all, the Cadillac High School junior stands 6-foot-7 3/4 and weighs around 315 pounds.
That size, along with speed and athleticism, has gotten Norman his first official offer when it comes to NCAA Division I college football.
After a two-day camp last week in East Lansing, Michigan State University coach Mark Dantonio offered Norman a full scholarship as part of the Spartans' Class of 2013.
Norman would be at right offensive guard on Michigan State's offensive line.
“They talked periodically with me throughout the camp and the offensive line coach (Mark Staten) wanted me to have a meeting with him and Coach Dantonio,” Norman said. “I talked about their facilities and things with the tight ends coach and then my parents and I met with Coach Dantonio.
“We were talking and very abruptly, he offered me a full ride. I was in awe.”
Norman joked that he was initially taken aback at the offer but quickly recovered.
“I actually didn't say anything right after he said that,” Norman said. “I just said thank you.
“I was wearing State stuff the whole time, though, and they know I am favoring State.
“It's just an offer right now.”
Norman said he is one of six players the Spartans have offered scholarship to as part of the Class of 2013.
The Spartans' coaching staff was impressed with Norman's size, athleticism and speed. He ran a 5.2-second 40-meter dash last week but called that “slow.” Norman also displayed a 26-inch vertical jump during camp.
With a couple of days having passed since the offer, Norman said it's on his mind but it's not a huge deal at this point as he has two years of high school remaining.
He's received a handwritten letter from the University of Michigan staff, along with inquiries from Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Ball State, among others.
“I still have time to decide,” Norman said. “I'm not sure when I want to commit.”
FWIW, based on what I could decipher from this thread on 24/7:

He has NOT committed to MSU (yet)
C'mon he plays in Cadillac.... he will not be a top 10 or 15 player in the state.. Trust me whoever told you top 5 is trying to fill up your belly.
Adams Williams from Lake City is a better prospect from 2012 but he is not even top 50 in the state.

lmfao. come on. Zettel was crap because he was from West Branch. Obviously most players will come from the metro Detroit area but your bias is ridicolous.
Other Blue-Chippers
As I see it, in no particular order, the next few guys are Cadillac offensive tackle Riley Norman, Detroit Catholic Central fullback-linebacker-lineman Wyatt Shallman, and Grand Blanc linebacker-defensive end Luke Maclean.
Norman is a 6'7, 320-lb kid who moves very well and already has a Michigan State offer. He has quite the green and white background, with both parents as alums, so we expect he will be a Spartan come due time.
this is from Trieu.

certainly not the end all but to say he cant play because he is from Cadillac is retarded.
Give me a break. Cadillac is decent sized school that plays both TC Central & West, Gaylord, Petoskey, and Ogemaw Heights. Those schools produced the #3 and # 12 players in the state last year in Zettel and Jake Fisher. Try doing a little research before you make dumb **** comments like that.
Man, Riley (#12) and Max Bullough (#5) must suck too. Don't forget Eric Gordon (#2 in 2006), Patrick Rigan (#3 in 2006), Rocko Khoury (#11 in 2008).
If you are going to take writing for that blog seriously, try to be a little less ignorant, and a little bit more knowledgeable.

I simply said he will not be a top prospect, C'mon he plays at Cadillac.... IS NOT AN INSULT. Those teams you listed are not that good compared to other schools in the state. Yeah Traverse city produces D1 players but TC is not Cadillac. Who has Cadillac produced?
He will be a good kid but top in the state, probably not.
You all simply changed what I said and twisted what I said to make it look what you thought I was saying. I could be wrong but its too early to tell.

Why do you make it sound so impossible? Who did West Branch produce before Anthony Zettel? Who did Anchor Bay produce before Taiwan Jones? I believe I heard you say once, whether it was on Rivals or here, that you thought Alex Niznak was the best player in the state. Who the hell has Ithaca ever produced? I just can't believe how incredibly obtuse you are being. I'm telling you right now that Riley Norman is a guaranteed top10 player in MI, and maybe even as high as 5-7. He will get that ranking from rivals, scout, and 247 too.
Well FWIW I don't think he will be a top 10 player in state. You guys are pumping him up because he probably will commit to MSU, if he was a Michigan lean, tell me you would honestly be defending him? and it's Keiler, you guys did not even know who he was until this week, Scout just throws him up to one of the best players in the state, which leads to you guys hopping on their bandwagon and believing them instead of gathering your own opinion about the player.
Who gives a _ about who Anchor Bay and Ogemaw Heights produced before this year? What's that prove?
And I have said all along Valdez Showers was the best instate, Niznak is definitely the best QB in the class from 2011. He is going to incredible things at CMU, just watch.

What does that prove? OMG, you are starting to get annoying. This is what you said "C'mon he plays at Cadillac...Yeah Traverse city produces D1 players but TC is not Cadillac. Who has Cadillac produced?" . That is your argument as to why Norman can not be a top 10 player!! So, I'm asking you, what is the difference between Cadillac producing a top player, and West Branch/Ogemaw Heights producing a top player? They play in the same conference for Christ's sake.
and now to this:You guys are pumping him up because he probably will commit to MSU, if he was a Michigan lean, tell me you would honestly be defending him? and it's Keiler, you guys did not even know who he was until this week, Scout just throws him up to one of the best players in the state, which leads to you guys hopping on their bandwagon and believing them instead of gathering your own opinion about the player.
You have no idea what the **** you are talking about. I'm defending him just as much as I've said Shane Morris is the top player I've seen for the 2013 class, and just as much as I said O'Brien and RJS are the top players in the state this year. Are they going to MSU? Don't think so. Don't give me that bias crap. I'll admit my bias in a lot of things MSU, but this is not one of them. Its more about defending a kid that you have never seen, yet pretend to know about, but seem to be content in talking down about just because he doesn't come from SE MI. Maybe if he ended up committing to CMU, you would think he was the #1 player in the state.
fwiw, Norman has been talked about well before Trieu even mentioned him. I'll take the fact that you probably didn't know about him as a pretty good sign that he will end up a quality player.
In regards to Kieler, I didn't know much about him besides the fact he only got an offer because we have awful in recruiting OTs this year. I still think their are better players we could have got with that 'ship, but the staff wanted a sure thing.
I just thought your position that because he is from Cadillac that there is no chance he is a top 5 or even 10 instate player.
Dont know much about Kieler but they arent the same category of prospect at this stage of HS. FWIW he is 6'7 320 and ran a 5.24 at MSU. Elmer ran a 5.04 which is absurd probably better than most NFL OT prospects at the combine. I just think you have a huge Detroit area bias.
