If they all were talking about going out and beating someone as was reported then it would seem pretty easy to have some sort of charge to hit them all with. I agree, there would have to be some discussion of actually killing beforehand as most of the others left before that act. Someone from the group will cave and tell the whole story.

I'm thinking the others just thought they were gonna go out and mess with people, yell at them, intimidate them, etc. I mean I'm sure they've done this before, except this time one or two guys took it way too far and ended up beating and killing a guy. It wouldn't shock me if the others weren't involved in the actual beatings. They still deserve punishment though, especially if they weren't trying to stop it.

Looks like all three have plead guilty. The actual driver/killer will get life without possibility of parole. They all will get 5 years for the conspiracy charge but the other two may face life sentences also as part of the hate crime law.
