Michigan’s point guard recruiting for the 2013 class heated up last week when the Wolverines extended offers to two in-state floor generals. One of those youngsters was Chandler Park Academy Derrick Walton. Walton recently took a visit to check out the Maize & Blue program. Is he closing in on a decision?

Walton also heard from the Indiana staff on June 15 and told Steve Schwanda that Indiana is very interested. Michigan is considered to be the early favorite to land Walton as the Wolverines offered the Detroit native last Wednesday.

Here’s a scouting report on Walton from our friends at UMHoops: “Walton is a pure point guard in every sense of the word. He doesn’t have the jumping ability of a player like (Demetrius) Jackson but he uses his quickness to get into the lane and is a dynamic passer with incredible court vision. He looks to setup teammates but is also capable of exploding in the scoring column as well.”

How good of a player is he? I just have no clue on basketball...But it seems like Michigan has been recruiting very good for the last 2 or so years

Valentine has also been in the in the ear of 16-and-under standout Derrick Walton, who has emerged as the top junior point guard recruit for the Spartans.

"I have been talking to Derrick Walton," Valentine said. "If they offer him he is going to come. That is what he said, so hopefully they offer him and he comes."

Derrick Walton is a FANTASTIC get. Offer sheet may not look the greatest right now (probably because of his school), but the kid has absolutely blown up this summer and it wouldn't surprise me if offers start coming in even after this commit.
