I know the difference between preferred/common stock, but I thought this article is more helpful that me posting about it.

    hmm, good stuff.

although, I guess it was a stupid question since ford bought back the preferred stock I think I was talking about in Feb:

I don't want this thread to turn into a hot stock thread, but I think ITC is up about 30% or so in a year since I suggested it.

POSC still blows if you are brokering with Bubbles.

So I ended up going with Fidelity as an online broker. Like it so far.

Do you manage all your own investments? Or do you have a broker who does all the research and investing....and do they check with you before doing something?

I'm behind a bit in all this, and I want (edit: need) to begin investing soon...trying to understand how it's properly done.

I used to pay someone but I do it all on my own now. It's not like I'm day trading though. I probably make less than 40 trades a year.

So, individual stocks or mutual funds, or something else? A variety?

Variety. I have random stocks I like (not a big piece of my total investments though, mostly POSC), mutual funds, ETFs, fixed income, etc. Fidelity is consistently rated high. Can do your own research etc.

I'm running all of my money through Fidelity now, including my checking account and bill pay. I basically consolidated all my crap.
