I get the impression that it's more about confidence in his ability than (cockiness?) than not being able to grasp the concepts these coaches are teaching him. The assessments tend to indicate he's a bit of a gunslinger who focuses in on one side of the field because he thinks he can make any throw. I think you're right though...it will probably take some humbling failures before he gets things together as an upperclassman.
Despite not making the Top 11 according the the actual event, Rivals had Morris as the 4th best QB at the Elite 11 event, and Scout had him #1.

Apparently Sam Webb hinted that Shane may have been docked during the "classroom" portion of the event for texting fellow recruits.
