Question for State fans. How does Izzo manage to keep bringing in 5* talent when he really isn’t consistently sending players to the NBA? You look at NC, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, etc, those teams all get top talent that ends up at the next level. To me, the strange thing about Izzo’s program is that the deep tournament runs and winning record seem to give players the illusion that he sends players to the NBA. Going to the NBA is the only thing elite basketball recruits care about. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of the basketball version of Andrew Luck or that guy from Florida State who decided to go to school at Oxford instead of the NFL.
From a person who isn’t a fan of MSU, in most cases it appears that players disappear in Izzo’s system hopefully reappearing in their junior or senior year. When MSU gets a top recruit, I usually don’t freak out for a couple of seasons. Maybe that’s because he beats the hell out of his players. I don’t know. If you listen to Valenti, by Christmas, as usual he’ll be ready to fire Izzo and will hate all of the freshmen and sophomores on the team. Of course like clockwork he’ll be back on the wagon in March. By the end of March he’ll hate all of the seniors too. A couple of months after that, they’ll get a few more recruits and the cycle starts over.
Is that fair or unfair?

I guess that really isn't that many. But I disagree that "Going to the NBA is the only thing elite basketball recruits care about". It's the only thing that one-and-dones care about, which Izzo doesn't really recruit. Also, Izzo is a system coach in that he finds guys who will stay, learn how to be team players, and lead as upperclassmen. UNC and Kentucky dont recruit like that at all, those teams will be on top of the world two years and then miss the NCAA tourney the next year. That doesn't happen at MSU, we go to the tourney every year.
Also Izzo is unanimously considered one of the best, if not the best coach in college basketball. Why wouldn't top tier guys want to play for him?
I guess it will depend on the site:
ESPN and Scout have MSU just above UM:

I haven't seen an updated Rivals ranking yet.
