I actually think that Rodman opens the flood gates (if it wasn't a new owner coming in) because I can understand Vinnie being seen as special to Davidson even though his on court falls short. We have seen no evidence that the front office has ever considered Rodman as special in that way in addition to his on court performance. So IMO I could see and accept Chauncey, Ben & Rip in the same pot as Rodman: Good, with a few great years here but just not special enough on court and off for this kind of honor.
But like I always say Homeboy, "I just hope it works out" because counting on this guy to even show up is risky!
They say 'the truth
shall come to the light.'
So everybody grab your shades
cuz your boy's that bright!
Do you remember how he left?? That left a lot of hurt feelings in the organization. They've always wanted to honor Rodman, and never excluded him when it came to certain things, the Bad Boys reunion and the 30 greatest players...but Rodman didn't show. He burned them because of certain reasons. So it's not that they didn't want to recognize him...it's that certain "hurt" people aren't in the building anymore and B) Rodman is not only receptive but eager to do it...
I have no problem with those Celtics or James Worthy being recognized. Retired numbers don't have to be the top 50 players, they simply have to hold a place within an organization. Vinnie made HUGE sacrifices to remain in Detroit when he could've gone elsewhere, made more money and had a greater national profile. Like I said, I don't have a problem with it, I don't feel they're going overboard and it doesn't make them a rinky-dink organization. They haven't retired Buddha or Aguirre's numbers, and I think that may take it too far. Complaining about Rodman and Vinnie is a little petty, IMO
