doubtful.. chicks are usually in the best shape of their adult life right before their wedding. spending a bunch of money and knowing everyone will be staring at you will do that

Admittedly, Valenti made things personal with local athletes and teams when he hit the air on WXYT (AM), competing with the popular "Stoney & Wojo Show" on rival WDFN. He was tough and abrasive, looking for ways to make a name.

"I was out of line when I first got here," said Valenti, 23 at the time. "It was clear overcompensation. I was young, didn't know any better. This was my way of trying to do the 'hey-look-at-me' routine. Looking back, it was stupid. I didn't need to do it. I've proven I didn't need to do it.

"To this day, I think that's one of the biggest regrets I've had."

Program director Jimmy Powers was not with WXYT when Valenti started, but has seen the station's biggest star evolve and mature.

"Because of age, he made it personal because he didn't know any better," Powers said. "He's grown leaps and bounds. He hasn't recently crossed the line and made it personal."

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't notice any difference in the personal attacks from the beginning of his career compared to the current show. If anything it's worse now than ever.

Frequently, his name pops up on message boards after Valenti says something particularly infuriating.

Happens to more than not. I am with you, Im actually in better shape now than before but I have a ton of buddies that were in great shape prior to marriage and kids and now they're a disaster...

Pretty good article. I think some people just take the whole love/hate Valenti thing wayyyy too seriously. Especially when they have the power to turn it off.

I think people are dumb if they can't see what he's doing. I still contend he doesnt truly believe (verbatim) what he says on the air. he says it to generate controversy which = ratings.

One of my personal favorites was when he went off on everybody who called in to support the US hockey team in the Winter Olympics, yet he turns into an Italian national every time the World Cup rolls around.
