As you know, this is Doner in a nutshell. Starcom had a good work/life balance and they paid well. Team Detroit is just odd, a lot of weird stuff going on there. As for UM, they pay really well but it's the whole work hard / play hard mentality there. And CE, well what's left at CE is like the island of misfit toys.

    That's a shame.

they have no one to blame but themselves. They can't retain any talent, and there's a lot of failing upwards there. They're not even a major player in the detroit ad community anymore.

I honestly did not see this coming but I'm interested to see what happens next with GM marketing partners because as all in advertising know, a new CMO means new ad agencies.

i guess his ManU deal ruffled some feathers. Joel also has been known to speak before thinking, and he wasn't Ackerson's hire either.

I thought the ManU deal was smart for a company that trying to increase their global footprint but I guess the board did not.

I think people hate change and he was changing a lot and for the better IMO. Not many clients could talk a agency into taking on business without hourly fees.

he didnt go through the financials of the deal too carefully, it's going to end up costing GM money in the long run in an market where they're already bleeding money.

Keep in mind that when Joel was at Hyundai, their media agency was Carat. Carat was so desperate to win the biz they essentially offered to work without an agency fee for the first two years. If you haven't, talk to someone who works at Carat, it's a complete **** show with people leaving right and left.

As far as Commonwealth, the jury is still out on them. Could it work? maybe. Will it be given enough time to work? Probably not.

apparently an employee at Carat wigged out and flashed a gun to his cowokers in the office.
