    Default The Official Restaurant Thread

I figured since not all of us are from Detroit, and may not know about some of the great places to eat, this could be a great place to share some of our favorites and others can ask questions.

for instance, I have heard alot about Slows BBQ's food, but what is the atmosphere like? Loud? Museum like? Nice clothes? Can I go before going to Tigers game? Good bar?

Slows is outstanding, I recommend the Brisket...If it is a weekend, you better make reservations....Carpooling is recommended as there is very little parking

Disagree, depends on what time you go. Got there at 5 on a Wednesday was out of there by 530. Obviously at 6 on a friday its going to be a little slow.

In Detroit, I enjoy the original Buddy's (6 and Conant)
I also enjoy Sala Thai in Eastern market...
Eph Mcnallys by the old Tiger stadium = tasty

The most recent place to blow me away was:
Gaucho Brazilian Steakhouse...outstanding... - The Inferno

Capers, home of steak by the ounce.

The steaks are incredible... nothing comes close. There are two locations; one on Gratiot in Detroit and the other on Groesbeck in Mt. Clemens. Both are quality, but the Detroit location is better.

Rumor has it that they have great burgers, too. I wouldn't know. It is impossible to walk in there and pass on the steak.

Also, the prices are better than any steakhouse.

BAM on the Original Buddy's, and Sala Thai (used to get this when I was at the DMC) plus Pizza Papalis.

Over Ypsi/AA way you want decent Mexican at a great price, Tios on Washtinaw Ave (can't think of the cross street) good stuff there. There is also a place that serves Italian Ice right next door that is good too! Piasano's is decent Italian in AA.

Downriver where I tend to hang my hat, Mexican Garden in Southgate, if you like sushi the Black Pine Tree, is real good just up the street, both are on Eureka west of Dix-Toledo Rd.

You're opinion is skewed though. You've never been to a restaurant that you didn't like or had bad service at. Kind of like any softball pitch you see.

Mitchell's Fish Market, anywhere in Mexican Town, A Matter of Taste in Commerce Township and Westpoint BBQ in Dearborn Heights are my favorites. A Matter of Taste is a once or twice a year place, though.
