When King and the other guy wrote that, they tried to write in each other's styles so that the readers couldn't guess who was writing what part.

The first part of that book is all set up and background stuff. Which isn't really unusual with King's works. Ever read insomnia? The first half of that book is basically slow, boring nonsense that doesn't have much to do with the actual action of the book.
Yeah, read The Talisman and Insomnia.

I know that was their plan, and I thought it worked well in the talisman, but the first part of this book felt like there was no King involvement at all.

I think I know why, but you'll only understand if you've read it, have you?

Yeah I've read them both and listened to them a bunch too. The whole opening and setup is definitely very un-King like. But it changes as you get into the story. Black House is definitely nothing like The Talisman either, that kinda bothered me.

Supposedly King has mentioned writing another Jack Sawyer book.

My issue is that one of the reasons I really like King is because of the depth he creates with his characters, and therefore the connection the reader gets to them.

The problem with the opening of the book is your riding with this mysterious narratator, and there can be no attachment to a non existant character, and you never get the internal thoughts that you normally would get with Kings characters.

Because of this conversation I'm listening to Black House again, currently. Good audio book version, one of the last books Frank Mueller narrated before he had his accident. I really like this book. I was largely over looked because it came out the same week as 9-11. IIRC it came out ON 9-11.

Just finished re-reading "A Salty Piece of Land" by Jimmy Buffet. Not sure what I'm going to move onto now...
