I think this should be the column that gets Rob fired. There are 2 people in the african-american baseball community who should NEVER be referred to as cowards. Jackie Robinson and Hank Aaron. Jackie was more outspoken and active in civil rights, and Hank is more quiet and reserved. But both men showed tremendous personal strength and diginity throughout their careers and after they left the field.
What Rob fails to remember is that Hank's stand has nothing to do with skin color. The fact is that Barry Bonds is the biggest @$$hole in sports - NOBODY likes the guy!!! Why should Hank lower himself to have to deal with that guy. Also - Hank is 72. He has paid his dues, and can do whatever the heck he wants at this point...
GARBAGE COLUMN - GO AWAY PARKER.
bottom line like TommyZ said, Parker wrote this to be a media *****. He needs to do something to keep his name relevant. But I think he barked up the wrong tree with this one, I really think this was a classless move by Parker.
I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.
I can see your point as well, but I think for a columnist to become bigger than the story and attack an icon for his stance is ridiculous. What gives Parker the right to attack Aaron without knowing all of the facts? Hank always let his actions speak louder than his words. He doesnt need to get into a pissing contest with some no-name columnist from Detroit trying to stir the pot.
I just think this was a horribly irresponsible column by Parker.
"People who drink light "beer" don't like the taste of beer; they just like to pee a lot."
And that's different from 99.9% of the people that populate this message board, or just people in general how? Welcome to America.
Parker's problem is that he's too stupid to see that Aaron has made his statement by deciding not to show up. Aaron is too classy to say anything bad about anyone, but his abscence will speak volumes.
“I’m definitely not about to let my team lose two games in a row to Michigan.
It’s just not going to happen. I’m not going to let my team do that."
