Interesting you say your face looks thinner, that is where the weight loss shows up first generally. Don't know why, but I don't have as much hanging below the chin. I have noticed that much. Good work so far!!! I'm down around nine lbs. So I am moving along at the pace I hoped I would.

*while eating an entire bag of chocolate chips*

I lost 10 pounds in a couple weeks. Which I will probably gain back as I add muscle. Had to burn off that holiday fat first.

FALSE, all of my problems are "gltiches."

Just a general word of encouragement to everyone. Many of us are at least a month into our respective fitness regimens (some longer).

I survived my night out last Saturday, I had 2 lite beers (early evening) and a midnight dinner (of chicken and vegetables) in Greektown. The only bad thing I did was eat 3 (yes) 3 pieces of bread with some olive oil (first bit of white /enriched flour bread I've had in nearly a month). Other than that dinner, I haven't eaten any food after 8:00 PM on any night.

I worked extra hard during my work out on Sunday and Monday. My first "official" weigh-in at my health club's weight loss contest had me at -10 pounds (we round up for interim weigh ins and round down for initial weigh-in). I was told by the guys running the contest, that I am the first person in the history of the contest to post a 10 pound loss in an interim weigh in (who knew?).

FF to today, a scant 24 days into the contest, and I am down to 231.5 down 12.5 pounds from my initial weigh in of 244.

I am not resting on my laurels. Many more pounds to go. This is a marathon not a sprint!

I have a doctors appointment that I need to make and I dont want to go. My doctor is going to be mad at me for not losing any weight.

Well, I'm not trying to lose weight really....but I do need to Get in Shape.

I played full court basketball for 3 hours last night for the first time in 5-6 months.

Needless to say my body didn't like me.

I think my body went into shock when I was done. My hands started shaking, they swelled up, and had a weird pattern on them. My muscles are sore as can be, I got a sore throat, and my stomach hurts....all from playing basketball:rolleyes:

I can barely move right now....I need to start working out regularly...bad.

    Hey Det,
Make sure you stretch out in the am & evening on nights you play ball. I stretch 2 times a day even if I'm not working out, just to help my muscles relaxe.
Activon roll on is great for sore muscles.
    Great job everyone
Now if I could find a "I'm quitting smoking group" I'd be set.
Congrats again to everyone who is making health a choice!

I'm jumping in here rather late in the process, but I've been losing weight on doctor's orders since Aug. 1. I'd been in to see him several times about persistent back pain, and he told me that it was due in large part to my gut. It was pulling my back out of whack, and it also indicated that my ab muscles weren't strong enough to be helping support my upper body.

I weighed in that day at 315. My doctor said that I should aim for a normal weight in the 210-215 range.

He put me on Meridia at first (he gave me three months' worth of samples, which was way cool), and now I'm on generic Adipex. Those are prescription appetite suppressants with amphetamines to jump-start the metabolism that the reduced caloric intake would slow down.

This morning, without any regular aerobic exercise whatsoever from then until now, I weighed 247.

I finally joined the YMCA today, thinking that, with a regular exercise regimen, I can get to that 210 mark by Memorial Day. Actually, I set a personal goal of 199, just to be able to say for at least a moment that I weigh less than 200 again, which I haven't since high school, and so that when I go off of the appetite suppressants, I can gain a pound or two without panicking that I'm going back to blimpdom.

yeah, it was kind've a last moment thing. So I did stretch some when I got there.

I feel like an old man with this pain. It has gotten better as the day has gone on. I'm not old by any stretch of the imagination, nor am I overweight, although since moving out of the house I might have put on a few pounds around the stomach. But I sure as heck am out of shape.

Back in the summer I was playing full court basketball for 2-3 hours a night 2 nights a week, and by the time I really got in shape and was feeling good, they canceled the open gyms. But they are back on now, too bad next week is an off week. Hopefully after that I will be able to play at least once a week.

40 days into my renewed health regimen (and also 40 days into the weight loss contest I am in with 15 other guys at my club), and I have broken the 20pound barrier (20.25# to be exact).

Accordingly, I have officially made my weight and commitment to lose 8% of my bodyweight during the contest (now keeping it off . . . . ). The contest ends the last week of April.

I'm not stopping. I do want to get to the neighborhood of 200 pounds sooner rather than later.

Here's my current work out MO:

    • Up at 5:00 AM every morning (M-F) 6:00 AM on Saturday and 6:30 AM on Sunday.
In the health club parking lot at least 5 minutes before the doors open (5:30 M-F, 6:30 on SAT & 7:00 on SUN).
M-W-F weight training followed by 20 minutes of cardio (usually treadmill)
T-TH - cardio - either 45 -50 minutes of the Cybex eliptical or 35-45 minutes on the treadmill (starting at 5.0 MPH and cranking it up a tenth of a mile every 2:00.
SAT - cardio - 1 hour of spin class.
SUN - 45 minutes on the eliptical.
    .

While the regimen has helped greatly, it is meaningless without a sensible eating program. I think my eating habts have played a huge roll in my success thus far:

    Breakfast:
    M-F Oatmeal (the real stuff, not the stuff in the package) followed by a whole grapefruit;

AM snack: almonds, sunflower seeds, orange or apple

Lunch: Sensible eating (nothing fried, no pizza, no white bread) chicken or fish or a salad with chicken with dressing on the side.

PM snack: almonds, sunflower seeds, orange or apple

Dinner: Same MO as lunch as well as a pice of fruit (typically grapefruit also)

Grapefruits always squeezed for juice as well.

After dinner: 2 sourdough pretzels broken up and eaten slowly.

. . . and most importantly, no food after 7:30 PM until breakfast the next morning.

It works for me, perhaps it will work for you!
