Appreciate the feedback fellas. Is 120 Hz technology that big of a deal? I'm thinking I'll just go w/ 60.

you know what... I can end this debate easily! IF you can't decide between LCD and Plasma... just get one of EACH!! ...that's what I did!![]()

Seriously... if you are looking for bang for the buck... you can NOT beat Westinghouse. They are the manufacterers for either Sony or Panasonic's screens. They also sell under their own name, but because they are not well known... you can get a 46" LCD for less then a grand (this is now my man's room/tailgating TV).
For quality... My Philips 52" 1080p with Ambalight can not be beat. The ambalight makes the damn TV. I can't watch TV at night withOUT it... the colors are almost so intense... that it hurts my eyes. The ambalight helps to smooth and blend the intensity of the light onto the walls around the TV.
you and D2O have both said good things about westinghouse but i read some very bad reviews about their TV's..... i've never actually seen one in person so i can't be a real judge of their product i just got a bad feeling from the reviews i read. i have a phillips plasma and samsung DLP and couldn't be happier with either set![]()
as far as 120 hz, it all depends on your preference. Some people can't stand motion blur and have returned tvs specifically because of it. I don't have an issue with it... I notice the most on TV shows that have more of a "handheld" camera feel to them... i.e. LOST. But to me, its not worth the extra $500 - $1000. The Sony Bravia tvs are $1000 more for the 120hz.
But, when watching BluRays, there is no motion blur and the 120hz is negligible.

I've seen those reviews too. All I can say is I love mine. The picture is very crisp and clear. The thing that separates it IMO is the brightness. Its much brighter than any other brand I've seen. The reviews do scare me some honestly but I've had absolutely no trouble out of either of the ones we have. One we've had for about 3yrs and the other for just over a year.
Joe and I don't agree a lot but we're on the same page with this one, I don't think you can beat it especially when you factor in price in the comparison.
I will get the protection plan on the big one that I get, mainly because of the reviews, but I have no reservations with buying another Westinghouse.
the one thing with comparing them side-by-side is that you will deifnitely see a big difference, but you'll never watch it like that, so just go watch a 60hz on its own, and see if it bothers you. (if you go to Circuit City, they have 1 tv that has a split screen with half 120 and half 60)
Eitherway, you will NOT be disappointed with almost any HDTV.... especially if you go with the Samsung! (Consumers reports rates the Samsungs, Sonys, and Sharps as the best)

Not enough content to push me to 1080p. Not enough justification to worry about 60 v 120 refresh. These are stats that have little to no meaning in today's media.
If you are trying to "future proof" yourself, you are overspending.
Look at what the tech was just two years prior (and the prices for that tech).
Look at what you will be playing. 80% of DVDs are not 1080p, 95% of television content is not at 1080p. So, when you buy that new-fangled 1080p set, what exactly will you be seeing??
I'd take a look at maybe a larger 1080i/720p set for the same cost - but that would be me.
Until the stimulus plan reaches us peons, I have but one penny of my two cents.
