ok the reason I asked about lighting is that if it's a a bright room, then plasma's are no-go due to the glare possibly being an issue.
next question: wall mount?
plamsa's generally weigh a bit more then LCD's, BUT the colors are brighter so that's something to consider.
what are the sources? are you going to hook it up to a game system, Blu-ray, upscaling DVD player, anything like that? or strictly to watch tv?
just my thoughts
A few quick questions
LCD(or LED $$$$) or Plasma - I prefer LCD in all situations. The colors and darks are good enough and they are more durable
720p or 1020p resolution - Unless you have a blu-ray or PS3 I would settle on 720p if you can find it.
Refresh Rate - 60hz 120hz 240hz. Higher hz for fast moving sports.
Brand - Sony, Pioneer, Samsung, Vizio, Sharp, and then down the line.
This will give you an idea of what size you can afford.
I have a 2 year old samsung 46" LCD, 60hz, 1080i but i keep in at 720p, wall mounted. I like it a lot but they are a lot cheaper now.
Its easy to have a plan until you get hit in the mouth.
Best Buy had 32 inch Sharp HDTVs on clearance for 440.00 last time I was there, I got one.
Toshiba 32inch 720p for 399.99

I have an lcd currently, and I think its awesome. However, when I see plasmas at the bar, I think they're really awesome. I'd go plasma if I had no reflection to worry about, but I think that might just be my personal preference.
Another thing to consider - size isn't everything (that's *not* what Hoff says). Depending how far your sitting area is from it, there a point where getting one too large is a total waste of money.

A less true statement could not be said...
Always go bigger. The rule of thumb is, pick a size that you think you want/need for that room, then go 1 size bigger. You will NEVER regret getting a big TV, but you can almost definitely bet you will regret it if you get something too small.

I disagree. I don't rely on a rule of thumb. There are geometric properties that demonstrate that there is a certain ratio of distance to size is appropriate, and beyond that you're wasting your money.
In an extreme example, you think a 50" tv would be good sitting three feet away? Obviously not. That same principle applies proportionally.
I understand what you're saying - I have a 100" 720p projector. But I also sit > 15 feet away from it.

What would be the geometric properties? Obviously there would be an upper limit on the size of a tv. If you have to turn your head to see the other side of the screen then its probably too big. I wouldnt say anything less than that is wasting your money though.

It's not just turning your head, its also being able to perceive the resolution.

It does if she has a bad case of the loose booty. That ass can be phat but it must be tight.
