I'm leaning towards an Xbox 360. Now I'm looking for a surround sound system.
The biggest thing besides price that swung me to this tv is that it's 1080p. All the plasmas' and LCD's were 720p. I would have had to have spent close to $3k or more for a 1080p plasma or LCD. **** the stand I bought weights 10x more then the tv.![]()
you know that the 360 doesn't come across in 1080 right? there are only a few games that do on the PS3 right now but there will be plenty more in the coming months.... and also the BlueRay dvd player that comes along with the PS3 is something you are going to want in the future too. i went with the Samsung surround sound system just because i've found it much easier to have a system with all the same make..... they have a couple different 5.1 systems, one for around $350 and a little bigger system for around $800. the sound is great, and the setup up was a piece of cake.
and i know what you mean about plasma 1080s being a little pricey.... my brother just spent 6600 for his![]()
I know the 360 doesn't support 1080p. But I know a lot of people who already have them, so the online play will be a lot more enjoyable. I had planned on buying a PS3 but when I firsted played it, it restarted 3 times in the middle of game play. Now I bought a PS2 right after they launched and it is still performing top notch. It seems Sony rushed out the PS3 for christmas sales. Also there are very few games out for it currently. Maybe I'll buy one when GTA4 and some other games come out.
Second you can purchase the HD-DVD player for the 360 and the price ends up being the same as the PS3. I'm not convinced yet on either format taking a majority stake. It's still too early to tell which one will become the standard. I've been trying to hold off on purchasing a new system because of this. But everyone I know who has a 360 is busting my balls to go and buy one. So the peer pressure is getting pretty heavy.
I've been looking at a few samsung and sony HT systems.
The adult industry has put their money into Blu Ray, though the Blu Ray industry isn't happy about this. Traditionallly, whatever the adult industry chooses as a standard becomes the standard for everyone else. They are the quiet/invisible hand behind these things. Look to Blu to win the format war, but it will take another three years.
Until the stimulus plan reaches us peons, I have but one penny of my two cents.
i've never played 360 so all i can do is tell you that i'm 100% happy with my PS3 and i'm sure their system like all the systems in the past will end up having the upper hand...... it's just a matter of time before new and better games start coming up. in case you didn't already know... you do not have to pay an extra fee for online play with the PS3's.
I know someone that works in Magnolia at bestbuy and he told me not to waste my money on plasmas or LCD because they get complaints and returns on them all the time, he didnt say which brand. He also told me for the money, The sony 1080 SXRD rear projection is the best bet.I am stupid on this stuff.
the sony compared to the samsung is about 500-1000 dollar difference..... and everything i've read said you are paying a lot of extra money for the SONY name. i have a samsung and my dad bought the high end sony.... i'm not saying my TV is as nice as his, but there isn't much difference in picture quality. i guess we might see a difference in 4 or 5 years when the bulb life is coming to an end.... but from what i hear, once you replace the bulbs its like getting a new tv.
This may only apply to a few of you, but IF you have an LCD HDTV AND have had both Comcast/cable AND DirecTV, is the picture better on non-HD programs with DirecTV?
TIA
Biff, that is an issue with LCD technology.
Things never look right when they're below the native resolution of the screen.
If you have access to a LCD computer monitor, try turning the resolution down to 640x480 or 800x600 and you'll notice how much less 'crisp' everything looks. It wont be as bad as an TV, but you'll notice it.
You can read more about it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LCD#Drawbacks
