720 vs. 1080p is not a gimmick...but once again, you're limited to what your getting from your provider. Blurays are at 1080p, and it's a clean signal, so you can see the difference...
what you're getting from your cable supplier is usually limited to 1080i, which is a little different from 1080p (a little less quality) but if you have a good or reasonable signal from your cable provider, you'll be ok...
as your TV gets bigger, you want to make sure you have a 1080p tv, but smaller tvs like 32in and even 37in are hard to tell the difference between 1080p and 720p...at 40in or above, i think you'd want to stick with 1080p...
SFA can add input to this as well
here's a good deal on a 40in...it's not LED backlit, http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/7242...BQAAAAAGOkBSfg
I like the "film" look more. When movement is extremely sharp and focused, it doesn't look natural.
As for the picture... Cinema an THX are too dark, while vivid and game are too color imbalanced. I found a custom setting that is ok from AVS... But the reds are pretty intense and some scenes are kind of fuzzy.
I'm going to see if this "break in" slide show helps and then try another setting to see if it makes a difference.
Who here is a math guru? We're trying to do a conversion for our Titanic 100th anniversary special newspaper on Sunday.
Trying to convert $820 in 1912 to money in 2012 terms.
The online stuf is all over the map ...
$12,345.67... Per my math
Organic LED TV ftw
I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.
I would FOR SURE go with a 1080P TV, even if you main source isn't 1080P, just because the savings don't justify it- 1080P isn't all that more expensive anyway.
120hz, however, is a technology I'm against...
In theory it's great, but in real world based on what I've seen/read, it's not a game-changer at all (nice to have, but not worth spending extra $$ just for THAT feature).
Karl, what are your expectations for the TV?
because that TV @ Newegg that Gazoo posted is a solid deal- 389 (no tax @ newegg) for a reputable 40" 1080P is solid if you just want a basic TV
yeah the 2 HDMI ports things kinda suck (does your Roku have HDMI? cable box will take up 1 HDMI, and only leaving one for all your other devices, IF YOU HAVE ANY)

even with the 2 hdmi inputs, you can buy an HDMI switch in order to add more sources...
