don't buy a floor model TV...
if you want a 37-40in TV, you can easily find one for $300...if it's for your bedroom, that's all you need...if you want to jump to nicer TVs, you could spend $400-$500, but, imo, it's not worth it...

Okay, we're moving sometime in the next 6 months and the current TV we have is not making the move it's staying here (the house we're in now). I am going to be looking to upgrade for sure from the 50" Panasonic plasma that's on the wall now.
I am thinking 60" would be about as big as I would go. I haven't decided 100% either way if it's going back on the wall or not. That depends on whether we end up building or going with an existing home.
I am thinking about going the LED route, but am still considering with staying with a plasma. Glare may be an issue with the plasma with the amount of windows that will be in the family room. I am not interested at all in anything 3D it's a waste of money on something I won't ever use. I know that when you go to Best Buy they have all of the TV's all jacked up picture wise, so would it actually be better to go someplace else to go see the TV's in order to compare, or is it going to be the same pretty much everywhere?
Do pretty much all of the TV's come with some sort of WiFi or Ethernet connection built in?
I am looking to possibly stick with Panasonic for plasma or go over to Samsung for the LED.
Also, does surround sound fall into this thread too, or is there another one for it?
My dad just bought a 60' LG Plasma from ABC and loves it

Never heard of that brand. It is the right width. I'll have to research the brand and let you know what I decide.
Please give me your thoughts on this...
Per Gazoo's raving input- I decided to go with Panasonic and I am ordering through Amazon (only have 2 hours to get it delivered by Saturday). No tax, no shipping. Good deal all around.
2012 GT50... which unfortunately only comes in a 50 and 55" (I want 60"). The 60" has not released yet. They show a pic at the bottom comparing the black levels of the 2012 and 2011 models and it looks significant.

2011 GT30... this is the only one they have left in a 60". Gazoo and many others have the ST30- the model down from this and love it. It is the right size and only about $90 more.

Which would you guys go with... bigger and pretty highly rated TV, but last years model... or this years model with some picture improvements for $100 less and 5" smaller?

buy the biggest your room will fit that you can afford... also I would be willing to bet that if the put the 30 and 50 next to each other you wouldn't be able to tell the difference if they were setup the same... jmo... i do know that the 30 needs a wifi adapter (i think it comes with it... mine did but I have it directly hooked to my router) and the 50 it's integrated.
i'd go 60in for the st30... i don't think you'll be disappointed.
I ended up rocking the 60 GT... Though you and other's really liked the ST... I think the GT had a couple more options I liked.
I imagine you are right about the 2012 and 2011. Thanks Gazoo!
