Yeah, Porters aren't my thing either. But I have to admit that Great Lakes has some solid brews. Big fan of the Eliot Ness, Lock Tender Ale, Dortmunder Gold and Burning River Ale. All the times I was in Cleveland, I never made it over to the brewery, kind of kicking myself for not doing so.
I couldn't help but think about this just now, after I posted that last comment.
Notice how more people get excited about trying a new micro brew, or get more interested in some micro brews from the different breweries across the state (I love reppin the Michigan breweries as much as I can) and the country if not world, than they are with whatever gimmick the big companies (Budweiser, Miller, etc...) put out there every year. Then they wonder why they are losing market share to the micro/craft brewing.
It seems to me that if they focused more on the quality of their product and better ingredients instead of a new can or bottle, or some other catchy name for the same old product that they might not be getting their asses kicked by the craft brewers. Not that I want that to happen. I love the fact that I have embraced my beer snobbery and enjoy the finer things in brewing than what the big guys are putting out there.
Eliot Ness I think is in my top 3 or 5 overall and probably my favorite lager.

Actually, the quality of the big guys beer and the quality of their ingredients are second to none...That is really never a question...People's tastes are just evolving and when things like this happen, http://articles.businessinsider.com/...-brewers-beers , which happens alot..It pisses people off
"People who drink light "beer" don't like the taste of beer; they just like to pee a lot."
