"Hip Hop Is Dead" Album. Pretty good offering from Nassir Jones.
Love Kelis! This album, not so much.
roots was like...numetal sepultura. to be honest, i cant listen to anything by them post chaos ad. i check them out, but for whatever reason i just cant get back into them, i'd guess since its either numetalish(roots) or max isnt in the band. my three favs are beneath the remains, chaos ad and arise.
i'm currently listening to
Isis - The Mosquito Control
in terms of "heavy" this album is right up there for me.
I hate nu-metal, and I just don't see that in roots at all. I really can't listen to any sep after roots... really after the brothers split ways. That's where the real nu-metal is... but roots is much more nu then say dead embryonic cells and what not.
how is that isis? They're older stuff totally slays, but I don't really get into the slower stuff that they do nowadays...

Thats the older ep its the one after red sea. its slow and heavy. i'd say its on the level of something like neurosis - enemy of the sun. some people knock the recent album, but not me, it is what it is. Its far from red sea, mosquito control and to a little bit lesser-extent celestial, but its still good. hell i remember when isis first came out reviewers would call them things like neuro(isis) because they thought they were too much like neurosis. now people wish they would go back to their old sound. me i like the last two albums. i think the recent one while having too much in the way of light build ups has more heavy parts than panopticon. that said i'm an isis/aaron turner dork. i like most things related to them, thus my screen name. this thread made me start listening to this album...
and sorry i just realized i shouldnt have put that numetal comment in with sepultura, lol, i didnt mean to knock them like that. i think the jon davis singing on the ablum, ross robinson producing it and because it has a diff sound when compared to their previous work is what turns me off to that album. maybe i should give it a shot again its been a while since i listened to it. oh yeah and i heard refuse/resist on heart attack on sirus radio recently during my lunch. it took me back to my youth, i loved that song.
i wish in this thread we could get into posting sendspace links of the albums we are mentioning. im sure the site operators wouldnt be for that though.
Ah, no harm no foul. I've never really thought of it in that sense, but it is true, and I can totally see how someone who liked Sepultura when they were pretty much straight up death wouldn't like the direction they took. I love death metal, but even though is a bit softer, I think Roots is a great album. As in one of my top 5 favorites.
Do you listen to any straight up death? or black metal?

death, i used to really dig suffocation, morbid angel some cryptopsy. i like techy death (ie death, deicide and i guess atheist or cynic but they dont really go with these bands).
black, i really dig enslaved, ulver, moonsorrow and some darkthrone etc
bands like carcass, at the gates, early in flames while not really being death are a little more of what i am into when it comes to metal. oh yes and of course opeth
also i dig doom. stuff like swallow the sun or slumber, my dying bride anathema etc. basically the more melodic stuff. i dont dig drone doom or the candlemass type of doom(the singing loses me).
