I should pry keep a higher amount in checking instead of savings, I like to gain interest on what little money I make.

Just don't cut it so close. It's not like you are making much on interest in a savings account anyway...you'll lose it all in fees cutting it close in the long run. If you have a significant amount of money, get it into a real investment account...hell, I don't even have a savings account at my bank. My non bill paying money chills elsewhere. they have higher interest rates and all you have to do is link it to you savings/checking account...you can move money in a day or 2...
