    I wouldn't really call it spot duty, he played almost every important defensive snap all season. Cam Gordon got hurt and he was put into action really early and never gave up his spot even after Gordon was healthy.

    he wasnt a starter and wasnt an every down player. How else do you define it other than spot duty?

    He was in on almost every third down. That's pretty key.

    Jake Ryan played a lot last year, I dont care if they called him the starter or not, he was in the game very early and hardly came out there after.

    I think part of it is the kid plays up during the games and the coaches were judging it by practice.

    I would have ranked him the 3rd or 4th best D player we had last year.
