With the deadline coming up (the non waiver wire at least) I guess it's time to make a thread where you can post rumors you hear. If you believe what's being said it sounds like our tigers are in the market for a starting pitcher and a bat![]()
Reports have the Tigers interesting in Dempster (FA agent due ~$6 million), Infante (~$2 mil this year and $4 mil next), and Scutaro (FA due roughly $3 mil).
I don't think any of those players would cost Detroit either of their top 2 prospects.
I was wondering if dempster would cost one of the big two
The Dodgers and Tigers are among the most serious suitors for Cubs right-hander Ryan Dempster, Morosi reports. Ten teams have reportedly shown interest in Dempster.
One executive predicts Shane Victorino will be the first big-name player traded. The Dodgers have some interest in Victorino, and the Rangers, Tigers, Pirates, Marlins and Giants have all scouted him recently.
Apparently the Cubs want to eat most of Dempster's salary in the hopes of getting a better return.
While Dempster hardly seems the type to demand an extension in exchange for waiving his no-trade rights, the team that acquires him might be interested in such a condition as part of the deal.
The Cubs want to assume the majority of the nearly $7 million remaining on Dempster’s contract to secure better prospects. So, given the high acquisition cost, it makes sense that the acquiring team might want to enhance its own return by getting an extra year or two out of Dempster.
Such a deal would not necessarily happen right away; Dempster might want to familiarize himself with his new environment first. But if a team cannot get draft-pick compensation for Dempster, it might opt for something even better: Dempster himself.
Also, apparently fake rumors that the Tigers have traded Castellanos, Turner, and Brenny Paulino for Zack Grienke, and are about to sign him to a 7-year extension.
