I just did the "smell my fingers" thing that Cabrera does to my wife.

    Nice win.

Maybe Porcello just pitches better in warm weather or something?

He had a great July last year also IIRC (6-0 or something like that)

Porcello's ERA last year by Month:

    April - 4.25
    May - 3.52
    June - 6.97
    July - 3.06
    Aug - 6.82
    Sep - 3.55

    This Year:
    April - 6.45
    May - 4.41
    June - 3.00

I don't think it's anything other than the usual ups-and-downs for a groundball pitcher, particularly one so young. The one possible explanation for this year I can think of is that he's throwing harder than he ever has before. The average velocity for all of his pitches is up 1-2 mph this season. That might not seem like a lot, but if you're a guy who relies on movement down in the zone, I can see how regaining that command would be difficult. It also doesn't hurt that his slider, which has been a brutal pitch for him this year, has suddenly become really effective in the last few starts. He's still on a pace to give up more than 200 hits this year though...so let's not get too excited.

The Rays scored 1 run with no hits and no Tigers errors. That's interesting.

No kidding, the announcers on last nights broadcast called him 'terrific' because he can play so many positions. Seems to me I'd rather be really good at one position as opposed to mediocre at 9 of them.

He's not even mediocre. Maybe as a defensive player, but his bat is bullsh1t.
