    Default OGT: Tigers vs. Rangers

This is my first OGT for any Tigers game...So I believe this will be a turn around thread for the season.

So, this version of Porcello is why I think he still has some decent trade value...sitting 91-94, pitching to contact, and mixing in solid breaking balls and changeups. Why he can't do it every time out is the big mystery.

The problem is it always seem to be one extreme or the other. He either looks amazing or awful. There really is no middle ground with him.

Consistency is usually what separates a #1 starter from a #3 starter (Scherzer has #1 stuff, but not the consistency), and sometimes that's what separates a #3 starter from a #5 starter. When Porcello's 2-seamer is working, he has legit #3 stuff. He's not consistent enough, so now he's a #5.

I agree, maybe that will come with age? The question is how long do the Tiger's wait? Or is that something that just comes with the territory when dealing with ground ball pitchers?

If it comes with age, Porky is Benjamin Button.

I love having Berry and Jackson out there. So much ground is covered.

I think age may play a part, but I also think it's just a part of being a ground-ball pitcher. Guys like Derek Lowe and Jake Westbrook have been Jekyll and Hyde for years. Even this year, Lowe had that game where he pitched a shutout with like 23 ground ball outs, then two games later he gave up 8ER in 2.1 IP. As far as waiting goes? I think I'd move Porcello this year if the right deal came along.

mine as well bring in valverde in the ninth. and keep him in no matter what happens. it's not like texas could score a bunch of runs anyway.
