I've asked this before, but was Fielder a known wreck at 1st? I figured he was at least ok coming from the NL.

Technically the runner on the first play was out, but the throw was so bad that I don't blame the ump for calling him safe.

Yeah I saw that too and thought the same thing. I guess it evened out Delmon Young's safe call earlier on that double (he was out, bad slide again granted ump's view was obstructed)

Looking at screenshots on twitter it looks like the ball thrown to fielder should have been an out too. That was closer but it appears he had the ball before his foot left the bag
