Yea, but what the Tigers bring up to fill holes can't be normal dude. These guys are a joke.
CB,
Heard anything about Al^2? are they still saying early July (roughly 5 more weeks or so?)
also, the middle relief - Marte, Villarreal, Dotel, etc seem to have been pretty solid, if Al2 can pitch like he did last year, that could be a nice position of strength for a change
I just found this update -It's not really that uncommon, believe it or not. I just had an extended discussion about this on another message board, so I'll just cut and paste what I wrote:Tigers - Al Alburquerque-P
Tigers reliever Al Alburquerque has begun long-tossing at the team's Spring Training facility in Lakeland, Fla., as he progresses closer to the goal of a return around the All-Star break. Head athletic trainer Kevin Rand said Alburquerque, sidelined since last winter following elbow surgery, is throwing form about 150 feet. Rotoinfo
This is already getting long, but I'm afraid I'm going to go a bit overboard now in an attempt to prove the following point - There isn't a contending team in baseball with enough depth in the high minors to deal with multiple injuries or ineffective veterans.
Red Sox - Got a great boost from Middlebrooks, but who did they get to replace Crawford, Ellsbury, and Bailey? Marlon Byrd, Scott Podsednik, Daniel Nava, Darnell McDonald, and no one in the bullpen.
Yankees - Lost a HOF closer, a key starter, and two starting outfielders. They pulled Andy Pettitte from the grave and David Phelps has been solid, but they also brought up Cody Eppley, and their outfielders are Andruw Jones, Raul Ibanez, and Dewayne Wise.
Tampa - Lost Longoria, Niemann, and Farnsworth. They have good SP depth, but the other two were replaced by Will effing Rhymes and Fernando Rodney.
Cleveland - Have gotten good starts from McAllister in replacing Carrasco and Tomlin, but don't dare use them as an example of depth in the high minors. They have less than Detroit.
White Sox - Alexei Ramirez, Beckham, and Morel have all been pretty awful this year, but there's no hope in sight.
Texas - Profar and Olt are awesome prospects, but who knows how ready they are to play in the Majors? Martin Perez is highly touted, but his AAA numbers are bad. They have a couple of arms in AA, but no one who can help right now.
Angels - Yes, they had Trout. But what else? They lost their starting catcher, Ervin Santana has been one of the worst pitchers in the Majors so far, and their bullpen is a wreck. No answers from within, so they traded for Frieri.
I hope you see what I'm saying. No team out there has pieces to fill all their holes, and contracts, service time issues, and good players who are just underperforming (Cabrera, Fielder, Avila, Peralta) make it very hard to call up top prospects even when a team needs them. You think the Diamondback couldn't use Bauer or Skaggs right now? Quintin Berry, Brad Eldred, Danny Worth, Brayan Villarreal, and Luke Putkonen really aren't a lot worse than what other teams are doing.
Why am I still watching this game? It's been over since Crosby walked 8 billion guys in a row.
So, 1 out in the bottom of the 9th, Tigers down by 5, and the bases loaded for Miggy. The Tigers have been horrible with the bases loaded, and they lead the league in double plays. I think I know how this one is gonna end.
This team's slogan should be False Hope.
This team is so unlikable I am actually looking forward to this season ending. They're closer to 4th in the division than they are 2nd. I can't believe Leyland hasn't let loose yet.
