    Default Kentucky Derby

This was today? Really? I'll Have Another won... But it doesn't appear anyone cares. It was almost hard to find on ESPN even... At least the mobile app.

When did this event become so uncared about?

I saw no news... highlights... or
promotions leading up to it. A few buddies and I used to go Tampa Bay downs to bet on it and play some cards... Today, not one of us knew it was on... Just weird

Somehow my son knew it was this week. He asked me on Tuesday if he could watch it. I honestly have no idea how he knew about it but I'm guessing he saw a commercial. I when it was done (about the same time the tigers were blowing their game) my son said "that's it. That's was the whole thing?"

This is my problem with it. I remember checking out all the coverage one year in college - four hours of buildup... and then it's over in like 3 minutes.

I've felt the same way about the 100m dash at the Olympics before, but at least there you're getting other events around it, and you see all the qualifying leading up to it.
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

went down yesterday for the race, wasn't exactly what I hoped for. Thought there would be more to do on the infield, but unless you're a heavy drinker (which I'm not), it can get boring quite quickly. Ended up losing $170 in bets.

Went to an annual Derby Party a buddy in Pleasant Ridge throws. Got there at 6:18, picked a name of a horse from a hat and then the race started.

"I'll Have Another" won me a fifth of Maker's Mark! Highlight of the night after that was watching a freaking HAMMERED FOX 2's Charlie LeDuff grasp the edge of a table cloth and violently yank it, sending plastic margarita and Julep glasses flying, to which he shouted, "FUKCING NAILED IT!!!" Which he clearly did not. (wasn't that a scene from a movie?).
Hilarious people watching. Here he is looking somber after getting chewed out by the host.

It's always the first Saturday in May.

I've gone down for Oaks Day the last few years (day before Derby Day) and have never had a bad time. Ended up losing about $40 in bets this year but whatever.

Oaks is a good time as well.

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.
