My initial feeling is that this is well-written legislation and won't happen. If they couldn't look at other states and see what works/what doesn't and write a good law, then I don't know what to say...

Totally agree. At least they are requiring things like extra medical insurance and you have had license a certain amount of time or take a safety course to boot.

Freaks me out anytime I see it in Ohio. My buddy who rides says I "wouldn't understand" because I don't ride. Ok.

I will never ride without one... That is unless I'm going only a block or 2 in my sub which is 15mph... I'd like to think I'm athletic enough to avoid hitting my head if I crash. Actually, if I crash... I probably deserve to hit my head...

That being said... I'm a survival of the fittest kind of guy. I think a few less warning labels would be good for society. That, or a good plague. So let them do what they want... As long as there's legislation that protects me as a motorist.

My car will be a mess if I hit one of these fools.

As opposed to how it would look if he was wearing a helmet?

Never will you catch me riding without a helmet.

I'm waiting to see what it's gonna do to insurance rates.

Was talking to a friend today who is an insurance agent, and he says auto and motorcycle insurance rates will go up due to this. The MCCA, which all of us who pay for car/bike insurance in Michigan pay into will go up as well.

So, not only will those of us who obey the law and drive with our vehicles properly insured have to pay for those who do not drive with insurance, but we will have to pay for motorcyclists who choose to not wear a helmet and become vegetables when they wreck their bikes without a lid on. Seems fair.

So let me get this straight. I have to wear a seatbelt when I am in a car but I can ride a motorcycle without a helmet? Makes sense.
    this.

i wear my seatbelt 99% of the time (mostly because the annoying ding when i dont) but if these ****ers dont have to wear a ****ing seatbelt or helmet why should I in my car that is 100x safer in an accident than a motorcycle.

I wear my helmet in my friggin' car. No way I wouldn't wear one in the motorcycle game.

I understand that there are provisions in the law that call for special classes and increased insurance liabilities, so a lot of your concerns are negated if the helmet-less rider follows the law.

I don't think seatbelts should be mandatory for adults either, fwiw.
I would agree if insurance premiums reflected the added risk. I hope they check the organ donation box, this could be a win-win.

They won't become vegetables...they'll become organ donors.
