It was admittedly frustrating watching "amateurs" beat us olympics after olympics, but you truly need that match up to get to a MOI moment. Hard to put the toothpaste back in the tube now.
It appears that's why they decided to let our pros play, right? I just remember when our basketballers TROUNCED everyone, my feeling was, what's the point. It's just expanding the reach of the league to Europe and beyond. Sane reason there will probably be a Superbowl played in Europe one day soon.

AGREE!
I can't knock anyone that thinks olympic athletes shouldn't be paid but I understand any professional that believes he should be compensated.
I struggle to understand why it's ok for every other business entity involved in the olympics to be concerned about their financial interests and one entity has to be concerned with being patriotic and supplying their service for pride of country. Especially professionals because they are business entities and not just dudes playing games as everyone wants to call them when it's time to cut checks.
I say if this is about patriotism then no business entity should make $ from it. We wouldn't expect or demand Nike or Addidas to produces millions of jerseys and not profit or demand owners of venues to supply them for free and pass out the tickets for free. I see no reason why athletes shouldn't show some concern for compensation for their service.

No, businesses and people are actually different.
Some men aren't looking for anything logical.... They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.
Does everyone get the irony of one of the most well off athletes that will participate in the games being one of the ones to ask to be paid?
It isn't the member of the rowing team or the set up man in the relay, or the pole vaulter, it is the guy making more than probably 90% of the athletes combined.......
Go Bran Go
Send college kids who want to be there and if we lose every game oh well. If we happen to win a few games it will be fun like the old days when we actually used amateurs
Never going back there. The american sports fan couldn't handle not winning Gold. Even tweaked the process for more of a commitment from the pros when a group didn't win.
That's what I don't get more than anything. People other than athletes are the ones that have made sports outrageously important in our society. We act as if sports is our life blood, as if Ws make the grass greener and the sky more blue. People push foolishness like sports teams winning titles lifts cities up and make them greater places and act as if losses hit like hot bullets to midsections but then say athletes are just "playing games" when it's time to cut checks for the work they do trying to provide these all important Ws.
