Eh, I'm not sure about him being a Douche for THIS....

NBC is paying $4.38BILLION for the TV rights for the upcoming few Olympics.

That's a ****load of $$ that the Olympics are getting (and not just for TV, but Jersey sales and everything) that isn't being distributed back down to the players...

There's a massive amount of risk (and inconvenience) for the players (and their owners who are on the hook for those contracts), so if things don't change, you might very well lose the NBA players participating in it.

    and it's not just Dwade.

    Mark Cuban:
"It's just the epitome of stupidity that we would allow ourselves to be used so other corporations (the Olympics) can make tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars," Cuban said, according to ESPNDallas.com. "There's some guys sitting at the Olympic headquarters going, 'Those dumb-asses, we're taking all their best guys for nothing.'"

Cuban said other NBA owners agree with him but aren't as inclined to speak up, and that he’ll continue his fight “so that we'll pull out" of the Olympics and other international competitions.

Why? Is it any different than college players getting paid? At least you could make the argument that college players get an education.

It may sound far-fetched at first but when you think about the time that they ask the guys to devote to the process and more imporntatly all of the money that is made off them during the process why shouldn't they get some of that?

Obviously basketball counts for only a small portion of that 4.3B but there is significant money involved and the NBA players (American and non-Americans) lend a level of star power to the Olympics that almost all of the other athletes cannot.

**** basketball, I'm talking about the whole damn thing- ALL the players should get a slice of that.

and remember, that's just NBC's share- there other plenty of other TV networks worldwide covering the games, that are also paying for TV rights.

Ok, gotcha and going bigger picture I agree with that also.

I was just thinking about all of the jerseys that are sold with NBA players names on them.

    yeah that makes sense also..

I'm just thinking of the big-picture, I don't want the Olmypics to become like the Dunk-contest or something where players aren't participating because it's not worth it...

that is a lot of sacrifice for the players.

I kind of agree with this. Although, the atheletes that get paid millions upon millions of dollars in their leagues (i.e. NBA) shouldn't be the ones *****ing. I would think the atheletes who don't get paid millions/year from their normal leagues should be *****ing. A guy like Micheal Phelps should get paid more than any of the NBA players. The revenue gained from people watching his races, I would assume, outweighs that of the basketball games. But the catch22 is, that Phelps has made millions on endorsements from his Olympic fame.... so who knows

How would you split the pie between atheletes? Does someone like Phelps deserve more money than Tyson Gay? Does time of exposure on TV garnesh you more money... since sprinters and swimmers are only on TV for minutes at a time vs. basketball players who are on TV for hours?

If these NBA guys are getting paper, the rest of the athletes should get a cut too. It just blows that the NBA guys, who held out this year and screwed the fans, who are already raking millions per year, would force this issue. However, if that's the decision, then the lowly rowing team should get paid too.

Plus, I just like to hate on Wade.

No question. Pretty much takes away their entire offseason, if the player's NBA team makes a deep run. For some that might not seem like a big deal but going pretty much 2 years straight can definitely take a toll.
