    basketball Trey Burke leaving Michigan

Trey Burke is leaving Michigan after just one season.

The Wolverines point guard, according to sources, is expected to forgo his remaining three years of eligibility and declare for the NBA.

Burke took the reigns from Darius Morris, who left early for the NBA a year ago, and Michigan didn't miss a beat.

The 5-foot-11 Burke averaged 14.8 points, 4.6 assists and 3.5 rebounds. While he's not an explosive athlete, he's smart, can shoot the ball well and also finds a way to get to the basket and both finish and create for his teammates. This is also an extremely weak point guard crop, so Burke -- according to several NBA executives -- has a chance to be taken in the first round.

Michigan finished 24-10 overall, tied with Michigan State and Ohio State for a share of the Big Ten title and lost to Ohio in the round of 64.

The Wolverines would have been a Final Four contender next season with Burke back and a highly regarded freshman class coming to Ann Arbor. However, without Burke, Michigan likely becomes a fringe Top 25 squad. Eso Akunna likely has the inside track to replacing Burke. He played a dozen games off the bench last season as a junior and averaged 1.7 points and four minutes per game.

The Wolverines, according to a source, are also bringing in under-the-radar point guard Spike Albrecht for a visit Thursday

Has any other school lost this many players that aren't first round talent?

I wrote him off immediately when he was considering leaving. Only upside for me if he stays, which he won't.
