In 2010, overall crime was at it's lowest per capita levels since 1968 and violent crime at it's lowest since 1972. Murder was at it's lowest since 1962. Crime began rising in the early 70s, peaked in the early 90s and have been trending back down since.
I believe I read that for 2011, violent crime was down but homicides were up for the city. I think I also read homicides are also up this year over what they were the same time last year. I could be wrong, and don't have the time to research it. ANd this is just for the city of Detroit.
Oh and since the media is anti-white and stuff now, please explain why Jon Benet Ramsey is such a household name yet nobody ever remembers Dejuan Sims?
How is the city of Detroit relevant to anything being discussed here in the first place? Am I missing something?

SFA, you're not seeing my point...the media is made up of primarily white people..they run it...and they choose what makes the news cycles...they are not racist...i just don't know why the majority of stories that make national news usually point to a white person doing something terrible to a minority. there are stories of the flash mobs that hit stores and steal all the stuff and all they refer to the people who did it as "youths..." why? video surveillance has the mob on camera and they are a minority. there are a lot of stories where the news cycles leave out the race of the culprit and i just don't get it...
if casey anthony were black, i bet the news wouldn't have run with the story as they did...but she was white and they were all over it...it's just my opinion of what the news is doing...it's just strange
and you made my point about about jon benet...the media is ****ed up and i'm just asking why...it's not anti white, it's just strange how they chose what is news and what isn't...if you think i'm an idiot for this, well, then so be it...
Well, since we live in Metro Detroit, and we are talking homicides, it's kind of relevant to my point of violence. I think it is shameful that, regardless of what the crime rate is, that THOUSANDS of children under 19 are murdered every year. And those are just the kids. Now add to it the adults...like the 2 hamtramck women whose bodies were just discovered after being kidnapped at gunpoint and murdered to prevent them from testifying against her ex-boyfriend, who previously shot at her. Or the white boy set on fire, or the other kids/adults who are killed so easily during conflict.
When thousands and thousands of people are being murdered every year, it is a sad indictment on society as a whole.
Agree with your entire post. Just didn't agree that it was somehow an epidemic though. There will always be murder, and some areas like Detroit will get worse at times. But overall, the trend is positive (which to me seems more relevant to this story). Like I said before, these stories are just sensationalized by the media more than before. Thing are getting better overall in this country.

Another child was shot and killed in Detroit last night. And there will be no protest or outrage. No one will wear a hoodie or carry a picket sign in protest.
We should. I would love to tell you the child’s name and age but I cannot. The 12 or 13 year old was shot around 3 in the morning, was doused with gasoline and set on fire. The body was so badly damaged that police do not know if it is male or female. A tear came to my eye just writing this. My daughter is 12 years old about to turn 13. This hits close to home.
It will just be another face that comes and goes in the media unless it was a black child killed by a white person or a white child killed by a black person. It seems as if the only time we become angry with murder is if it is a hate crime. The way I look at it is a death is a death. The Rev. Jesse Jackson said something interesting on WDIV Thursday morning.
It went something like this. If it is a white on black crime it is revolt time. If it is a white on white crime or a black on black crime it is Miller Time. In other words we move on, have that drink at the bar and forget about it. Life has no value any more unless it is a hate crime.
Why can't people address these issues as two separate incidents that need to be addressed based on the circumstances at hand rather than blaming Al Sharpton for all that is wrong in the world.
The pure idiocy of the ignorant question, "where is Al Sharpton?" shows the foolishness of people who don't have the wherewithal to advocate for what is right on their own, but would rather spend their time looking thru Al Sharpton's itinerary to see what is on his agenda rather than doing what they can to advocate like Sharpton on an issue that they have a concern with. If you are outraged, get the **** up off the couch and get busy.
The reality is that Sharpton should be applauded for acting on his convictions rather than wondering why Desmond Tutu isn't here.
The people that set this kid on fire need to be brought to justice and dealt with. If they did what they did because he was white they should be charged with attempted murder and a hate crime. Unlike the idiots advocating for George Zimmerman, you won't see me trying to justify this heinous act.
