Honestly, you look at what the hell is going on in society, with all the murders, the seeming ease to use violence and cruelty to make a point and it makes you ask...what the fcuk are we doing wrong as a society that this is happening at nearly epidemic rates?

How many kids have been killed in Detroit by guns the last month? I believe homicide rates in Detroit are UP. Crime overall down, but homicides are not. At least in Detroit. Can't speak to national numbers

Yea, I wasn't talking about Detroit. I thought you comment was an overarching comment regarding society. Long term trends in homicides and almost all violent crimes for that matter are down.

I just don't quite understand why people have such hard time grasping the facts, it's like they're just obsessed with the races/skin colors and refuse to see the actual, underlying point.

I mean the NBA ASG was 2/26 (exactly a month ago) - the Trayvon killing happened during halftime, right?- there's a reason why this wasn't a massive story 3-4 weeks ago, and it's only blown up in the last week or two: because that's when it became clear to all that the Sanford Police and all involved are going to refuse to believe a black kid shot in the head wasn't justified...

I mean the case Gazoo cited was the night of 3/24, and he's *****ing about the lack of a national headline- I dare gazoo to find a "national headline" from 2/27 for Trayvon..

It's not the crime by Zimmerman that blew this story up, it's the "crime" by those in charge, the refusal of justice, that blew the story up.

Meh, I'd still rather be alive now than say, in the 1700s, or the Middle Ages. People are ********. We've been ******** for, I don't know, 60,000 years. There are just more of us now, there are cameras everywhere, and it's easier than ever to kill one another. The violence now tends to be isolated and, while it's still tragic, I think I prefer this to the vast majority of human history that has been marked by religious wars, genocide, slavery, rape, and torture. It could be better, no doubt, but I think we're doing okay in the U.S.
