Not painting you as anything. The issue isn't so much the shooting. The dude is nuts. I think Martin being black is the main reason that Zimmerman, assumed he was "up to no good", followed him, and ultimately killed him.
But even worse is the handling by the PD. A predominately white Police Dept, who chief is white and by all accounts the officers in charge are also white. They seemed to do what they could to protect Zimmerman.
There seemed to little concern or thought of Martin. Just another young black male dead. He laid in the coroner's for a more than a day. His father thought he was missing.
Don't read my post as advocating raw vigilantism. I'm not. That appears to be what started this off in the first place.
I am advocating a full investigation, and fully exposing that which requires exposure. This includes the police department. If there is nothing there to merit punishment, that's fine, as long as the process is both complete and transparent.

The Stand Your Ground law or whatever it's called is really going to complicate this case. I would think first degree murder would be hard to prove without witnesses. The phone call doesn't prove Zimmerman (BTW, when's the last time you've heard of a Hispanic person with that last name?!).
I hope this guy gets at least 2nd degree and life but it's going to be interesting. A., they have that law and B., it's Florida.

The problem with the Stand your Ground law as a defense in this case is that he (Zimmerman) was not standing his ground. He was the pursuer. And he was told by the police dispatcher to stop chasing the guy. I don't believe that law will help Zimmerman. That law says you can defend yourself, and do not have to retreat. Zimmerman was well beyond that point.
