You wouldn't be the first to do it, TRRW beat you a long time ago.

If it's painted as a white on black crime it's going to enflame the black community vastly more than if it's Hispanic on black. That's just how things are.

I'm not sure how else you want me to explain it.
Not painting you as anything. The issue isn't so much the shooting. The dude is nuts. I think Martin being black is the main reason that Zimmerman, assumed he was "up to no good", followed him, and ultimately killed him.

But even worse is the handling by the PD. A predominately white Police Dept, who chief is white and by all accounts the officers in charge are also white. They seemed to do what they could to protect Zimmerman.

There seemed to little concern or thought of Martin. Just another young black male dead. He laid in the coroner's for a more than a day. His father thought he was missing.

Whether that is the local authorities, or federal. I want it to be done right. I don't mind the protests and such. I do mind when I read about a militant group coming in and exacting revenge. That scares me. Once you start down that road, it's very easy for things to way, way wrong.
Can't get to the guy in question, maybe they go after anyone who is working on the neighborhood watch for that neighborhood.

And this guy wasn't part of his neighborhood watch from what they said. See, those kinds of folks.....
Don't read my post as advocating raw vigilantism. I'm not. That appears to be what started this off in the first place.

I am advocating a full investigation, and fully exposing that which requires exposure. This includes the police department. If there is nothing there to merit punishment, that's fine, as long as the process is both complete and transparent.

It is little solace to the black community that the shooter was white or Hispanic; it appears from what we know that this kid was largely targeted because of his race, and no other significant reason. That ought to give everyone reason to be inflamed. This is 2012. We should not tolerate as a society vigilantes targeting people because of their skin color.

I think everyone here is familiar enough with my postings that I don't see racism at every turn. But when it is present, as I believe it is here (based on what I have read), it needs to be thoroughly investigated and exposed.
    Bam.

And fair or unfair, that police department has been accused at least a couple of times of some sort of prejudice/unfairness/racial things...

I still don't understand how Zimmerman hasn't been charged..

Is he in custody because I'm more surprised there haven't been villagers with pitchforks and firebombs at his door.

Nope, not in custody. He reportedly is not staying at his home though.

The Stand Your Ground law or whatever it's called is really going to complicate this case. I would think first degree murder would be hard to prove without witnesses. The phone call doesn't prove Zimmerman (BTW, when's the last time you've heard of a Hispanic person with that last name?!).

I hope this guy gets at least 2nd degree and life but it's going to be interesting. A., they have that law and B., it's Florida.

The problem with the Stand your Ground law as a defense in this case is that he (Zimmerman) was not standing his ground. He was the pursuer. And he was told by the police dispatcher to stop chasing the guy. I don't believe that law will help Zimmerman. That law says you can defend yourself, and do not have to retreat. Zimmerman was well beyond that point.
