Not entirely sure how I feel about this. I mean there are others that will definitely attempt to profit off of this and there is no way to stop it.

If anyone should, it should be the parents IMO. Trademarking at least will give them some control over the messages that are connected with their son's name.

Even former NAACP leaders question Sharpton and also Jackson's motives... For whomever was saying Sharpton isn't a self serving bigot
"leaders" or "leader" big difference. Ben Jealous totally disagrees and his voice is clearly a more important voice from the NAACP.

This idiot that you are presenting as some authority also had a problem with President Obama saying, “if I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.”

What is your point in posting this?

I do believe this is a movement that can go on beyond this tragedy as it should. While I agree with you in not being sure how I feel about this, I do believe that it can result in something positive if used for change in the name of Trayvon. I hope that is what the intent is.

They are trying to gain publicity for the cause (and consequently themselves) no question though.

I've just realized with some of the comments from the extreme right, racists (black ones and white ones) and others that we aren't doing as well as I thought as far as race relations go. But even beyond that there is so much hate in this country right now. Its pretty ****ing sad.
I have no problem with what Sharpton is saying or doing. He has brought national attention to this tragedy beyond where it would be otherwise. As for those who have a problem with the President's comments, they need to STFU because there is absolutely nothing wrong with what he said.

So true. You should see what happened at the meeting yesterday here with Andy Dillon and the council trying to advise on an emergency manager for Detroit. One guy called a black member on the panel a "sell out" and another guy got up and said this is "white supremacy" and "before we let you take over our city we will burn it down."
    Yeah, conciliatory words.
Still no one has commented on the curious relationship of Zimmerman's "friend" Joe Oliver. I'm telling you there's way more to that than meets the eye.

I'm not really understanding the outrage over his statement but I do understand that at least one side would be pissed with whatever he said.

In a nutshell, this is the problem of Detroit.

The whole mentality of "keep whitey from taking back Detroit" has long been a hindrance to any sort of progress in the city. Its one of the reasons that I'm glad I am no longer there.

The Joe Oliver thing is definitely a little weird.

Just found out that Zimmerman's father is a retired judge and his mother is a retired court reporter (I think that's what they said she did).

This could actually explain some of the leniency from SPD.

It was me who said I don't think he's a bigot.
