if you want to save money the cheapest way to go is an above ground Aluminum (must be aluminum so it doesnt rust) and sink it into the ground.... can do this for under 8k... i worked for viscount pools for a summer back in the day...
Not liking the sinking a fiberglass into the ground look.. I will probably lean towards the fiberglass, Novi is having their pool and spa expo this weekend , which I am planning on attending. Just trying to get as many opinions as possible before I go and get bombarded by salesman..

Went to the pool show last night. Probably won't put one in this year but maybe next. Sounds like gunnite is more in the 50k range. Might just go with fiberglass.

From all I have read from the different types. I am most likely going with the fiberglass. All the cons mentioned about the fiberglass were that they are limited in size and shape. Seeing that I am not interested in forming or designing my own, and I am open to any design they carry, this con has no factor in my decision.

I liked midwest pools. Seemed like they have a high quality fiberglass and a lot of options.

I will be checking them out for sure. They post on craigslist all the time, which led me to their web site, which led me to wanting an inground pool.

Make sure you put in a well point. Ground water is not kind to fiberglass pools.

Best of luck . . . . it's just me, but for the associated liability, maintenance and resale issues, I haven't to date, and won't in the future, invest in an in ground pool north of the Mason-Dixon. There are plenty of pool clubs around that are opened from Memorial Day to Labor Day where you and your children can get their "swim fixes."

Assuming an average annual family membership at a pool club of $500, you could have 60 years worth of swim club memberships for just the cost of installing the pool.

FOLLOW-UP: To give you some further insight on my response above: There are 4 swim clubs within a 5 minute drive of home. We've been members at one of the clubs for 5 years now. Our 12 year old more or less lives at the swim club in the summer and hung out with his friends there daily until dinner (he's now old enough to have access to the club without parental supervision, so he just bikes up with his friends and keeps in touch during the day with his cell phone).
