yeah, i know, its not like i'm pining for it.. just think he's a serviceable hitter and fielder. nothing special, but no terrible attributes either. just a space filler that wont make me want to throw a shoe through the tv and wont say anything stupid to piss me off either.

I'd be ok with him for the same reason I'm ok with Inge. I'm more concerned about glove at 2B than BA or other numbers. Having a infield of Cabrera/Peralta/Raburn/Fielder scares me. That has to be the worst defensive infield in baseball by far.
Getting Inge off the corner and at 2B makes his batting issues less of a concern to me I guess. It will end up being a rotation anyway.

yeah, more than likely.. and i'm ok with a rotation as long as leyland isn't dumb with it. if a guy gets hot, ride him out. don't play inge because "its thursday"

Well that's just Leyland, so I think you'll be disappointed.

Gekko's post brought up something I've always wondered. I played baseball pretty much my whole life, and never understood the "light-hitting 2B" or "3B has to hit for power" arguments. One of the nuances of strategy or tradition that I never grasped. I mean, think about it. We're all hacked off because at 3rd Inge batted around .200. But if he moves to 2B and bats .200-.230 it's suddenly ok? Some of you guys that know more than me, please comment on this. Is it simply tradition and every now and then someone bucks tradition at their position and hits more/less than years past?

With your logic Joe, 95% of the catchers in the league wouldn't even play. There would be a better guy at the plate that could replace them, albeit at a price defensively.
You need guys at the corners to produce offensively, just like you need a forward in hockey to produce. I don't understand what's confusing about it. If Kris Draper was 6'3" and could play defense, I'd be a fan.

Not my logic. I'm just asking for some perspective.
I never realized guys playing defense could bat while while in the field with gloves on. Why do they need to produce offensively any more than any other player on the team? Sorry, that doesn't seem like the best comparison to me, especially given the disparate nature of the flow of both sports.
