Default Game Consoles: PS3 or Xbox 360

I am sure this will spur as much debate as an iPhone/Android or Apple/PC discussion. But I am considering getting a new game console. I had an xbox years ago, that I ended up selling and I was a Wii owner for a little while and get disenchanted with that after some time and wanted something, well more grown up (that and I stopped playing it because it just got old).

I am going back and forth with wanting to get another one, as a way to kill time on nights when I just feel like blowing stuff up in a video game and what not. Or have friends over and have something to do during intermissions or half time(s). I am not a hard-core gamer by any means.

Since I got bored with the Wii, I have no desire to get the Kinect or Motion option bundles (although I know the Kinect looks like a whole lot more fun than the motion). Although the Kinect option does look cool because I don't have to hold a controller, or a microphone looking thing to use it. I am leaning towards the Xbox 360 because I loved the Halo franchise and know that a lot of the games go on both platforms. I already have a Blu-Ray player, so that isn't a necessity.

The only thing that scares me with the Xbox 360 is the dreaded red ring of death. I don't want to be forced into buying the warranty on it because at some random time for no apparent reason it's going to decide I want to blow up today and do that. (is that even an issue anymore?)

So what's the pros cons of one over the other?

I always tell people to get the PS3 unless they already have a blu ray player, so if I was you I'd get an X-box since you do have the blu ray even though I myself don't have one.

My brother has an X-box and he hasn't had the ring of death so its probably hit or miss. I've never had any problems with my PS3 nor have I heard of any from anyone else.

And if that doesn't help find a list of games exclusive to both consoles and pick the one that has more games you'd play because the main difference between the two is the exclusives and the blu ray on PS3. Most major titles get released across all platforms but for example if you want Halo you need an X-box and if you want Uncharted you need a PS3.

i think the new generation xbox's dont have the ring of death issue anymore.

I would go xbox personally. the online features/ software seem to be more user friendly..

What is the difference between the graphics, on the two systems?

    Minimal for the most part.

I believe most of the newer 360's (made after 2009 or 2010?) have the RROD problem solved... so don't let that be the deciding factor, IMO

There are some exclusive games to each system so that prolly be the deciding factor. The PS3 does have Blu-Ray capability which can sway some if they don't already have one.

Now that MS has finally fixed the over-heating issues there really isn't much difference between the 2 at all IMO. Although I think 360s are now a little cheaper if you don't get one with all the options.

Yep, mine was bought before but I had to send it back a couple times in the first year or so. Haven't had any issues since.

I think it comes down to how important the online access/features/price is to you... XBL live costs $$ (I think if you look around there deals for $40/year a few times a year, regular price is $60/yr I think?)- but it is without a doubt the better + more feature-packed online experience... While Sony's online stuff doesn't charge extra, but it's pretty basic also.

On the other hand, if baseball is important to you, from most I've read/heard, the Show is a PS3 exclusive title, and I believe most say it's without a doubt the better game (for now at least)
