I dont see how anything can change that. Only in the NBA do guys really have a destination choice that isn't mostly fueled by money. CP3 becomes a free agent next year, it's better to know he wants out now so that you can trade him instead of losing him for nothing next summer.

Agree but NY has NOTHING to trade for him and if he won't sign anywhere else then the offers will be pretty crappy. You may get a team that will "rent" him for the year but that will be a team that feels that it is on the verge and still they won't give up as much.

The thing is, this was never about competitive balance. You could see that as soon as "Chris Paul would not sign an extension if traded to Boston" came across your TV screen. Guys still have teams by the balls. Some dumb-ass owner is still gonna give JJ Barea $9M a year. There should be games on in a few hours and there's not. And for what?

They might if there's seveal teams bidding. You'll never get 100 cents on the dollar trading superstars anyway, unless you trade one just as he blows out his ankle and you get Ben Wallace in return
