Sunday I went to Davidson College's post game press conference out of respect.
I was not writing about the game. I didn't need to hear what the players and coaches were saying. I wanted to hear them.
I wanted to see their faces, listen to their words and take one
last glance out of the best thing to happen in this men's basketball
tournament. They came one shot from busting up this all top-seeded
Final Four party in San Antonio. Instead they lost 59-57 to Kansas and
earned plenty of people's respect.
I sat next to one of my boys during the press conference and he
was complaining about the last play. He thought someone else should
have brought the ball up the floor and allow Stephen Curry to roll off
a screen for the game-winning shot.
I did not want to listen to second guessing about a team that
guesses right more times than not and makes spectacular plays against
the big boys.
Curry was rightly named Most Valuable Player of the Midwest
regional. The amazing thing is he is a college sophomore who looks like
a high school sophomore but plays like an NBA sophomore.
There is just something about watching the little guy beat up
on the big boys. After the game I wanted to buy a round for every
Davidson fan that stuck around for a post-game drink, but I was a
little short on cash.
I am now a Davidson College fan and will follow them next
season. But first I must get my big red sweat shirt and see if Curry
can give me some shooting tips.
