Well my first draft of the season is done and some interesting things
have become apparent to me, namely most people are nuts on a few guys.
1. Jon Kitna QB/DET—Look, if you play in a league where INT’s don’t
hurt you too bad I can live with the pick. That said, most leagues,
including mine, INT’s hurt you big and Kitna will throw lots. To see
this guy taken in the same area as Palmer, Brees, and Brady and ahead
of guys like Phillip Rivers and Marc Bulger is a total joke.
2. Brandon Jackson RB/GB—What is the buzz with this guy? Not only in my
league but in mock drafts across the net I see him being taken ahead of
several proven backs. Why? While Jackson has youth on his side he will
likely split time with Vernan Mornecy and correct me if I’m wrong
here…still plays on a mediocre Green Bay club that will be behind
often. While guys like Ahman Green aren’t sexy, they should out produce
a rookie in a RBBC(RB by committee)) situation.
3.
Joey Galloway WR/TB—Why is he sliding so far down the board? I see guys
like Kevin Curtis and Drew Bennett going ahead of him and it makes no
sense to me. I understand Tampa Bay isn’t the ideal spot for an aging
WR but let’s get real. Galloway isn’t just the best option in the Bucs
passing game, he may just be their best offensive player. He will be
targeted on most passing plays and still is a good red zone option.
Also gotta like Garcia coming into the fold under center.
Now
onto more pressing issues. The big thing on my mind today is looking
back and seeing where you reached and where you waited too long to get
the guy you truly wanted. It’s always a hard thing when you lose out on
the guy you wanted but it’s even harder to justify that Michael turner
selection when a guy like Jerrious Norwood was still there. The lesson?
Be safe not sorry. Wait that extra pick, that extra round, that extra
turn and risk losing out. It’s a lot easier to replace the lost choice
than accept the brutal reach you made two days later.
