Are you a clone? I just don't get it. Year after year we lambaste Matt Millen because
of his inept drafting ability. We crucified him when he took three wide
receivers in four years. Callers and talk show hosts made fun of the
guy because he did that. Now all of a sudden the Lions cant pass on a
"cant miss" wide receiver in Calvin Johnson. Lets make it four wide
receivers in five years. That makes real sense. Lets just ignore our
bigger holes and keep adding wide receivers until we have a stable of 6
"great" ones. Stuff like this really makes me question some of your
thinking.
Let me make sure I'm correct here. I believe the Lions had a pro
bowl wide receiver in Roy Williams. That is not good enough, so lets
draft another receiver. Their "second" receiver lead the league in
receptions. That is not good enough either, so lets draft another
receiver. I get it. The Lions need a third receiver and that is where
Calvin Johnson will fit in.
But wait, he is 239 pounds. How long until your going to start
calling him fat? I mean Mike Williams is fat at 235 pounds. Maybe we
can make Calvin Johnson into a tight end. He can block right?
This is what I don't get. The Lions have glaring holes on the
offensive line. They have glaring holes at the defensive end position.
The really need a middle linebacker. There is now a need at corner-back.
But because Calvin Johnson ran a 4.39 at the combine, we need to get
him. Sorry, but I want the Lions to win in the next 5 or so years and
drafting Johnson is not the answer.
Answer me this as well. If Braylon Edwards was coming out this year instead of Calvin Johnson. Would you draft him number two overall? I mean Braylon had a much better college "career". He was much stronger than Calvin Johnson. Remember those 25 reps of 225? But Johnson does have him on speed. I mean he was a whole .06 faster in the forty..
Another thing I don't get is people saying someone is not worth a certain pick. Example, Gaines Adams is projected to go anywhere from the fourth to eighth pick. But if the Lions take him at number two he is not worth it. Well, the Lions passed on Sean Merriman because he was not "worth" a top ten pick at the time. How did that turn out?
Look, I want the Lions to win as much if not more than a lot of you. I'm still a fan. I don't lie to myself and say I'm Lions free. I still watch them every Sunday and get mad when they lose. I just want the Lions to build a team right. Taking a wide receiver four of five years is not the right way to build a team. Matt Millen is rubbing off on some of you and for some reason you cannot see it.
