• Detroit Tigers Minor League Update: Short-Season & Low-A Ball

Now, on to the Minors, where all the short-season leagues have begun. Let's take a look:

    GCL Tigers

    OF - Danry Vazquez - L/R - 6'3, 170 - 1/08/94 (17) - Stats

One of the most exciting prospects in the system, the Tigers believe enough in Vazquez's bat that they brought him to the States to begin his career...the first time they've ever done that with such a young Latin American hitter. He needs to work on all the finer points of the game, but by all accounts the kid is a hitter, and the Tigers believe he'll eventually develop into a prototypical right-fielder.

    RHSP - Brenny Paulino - 6'4, 170 - 2/21/93 (18) - Stats

Paulino is one of the more intriguing Latin American prospects in the system, because he already has an above-average fastball that can hit 94, and with his frame he could easily add a few more ticks. After that though, things are questionable. He struggles to locate his fastball, and his curve and change are both below-average right now. Big boom or bust potential here.

    RHRP - Scott Green - 6'7, 240 - 8/10/85 (25)

Green was the 3rd rounder in 2008, but he's fighting his way back from shoulder surgery. When healthy, he has a power arm that could help a Major League bullpen.
